Module Seven Assignment - Mini-Collection - Latin American Countries (7th grade project)
November 5, 2012
To Mrs. Darby & Mrs. D’Elia, Grade 7
Kerry & Erin-
I am looking forward to working with you on the 7th grade collaborative unit on Latin America in a few weeks. Per our conversation on resources, I have compiled a list for you of both print and digital materials. Please see website: http://www.only2clicks.com/home.php?cat=597437 (login: [email protected], password: murray12!).
As you can see by the website above I have added many new items to supplement the unit. I hope you will be pleased with what I came up with. Additionally, I have included e-books as well as websites for students to use. I have chosen books at both the middle school and elementary school grade levels to meet the needs of the various learners, especially those not on grade level. This can be part of our differentiation plan. Furthermore, electronic resources were one third of my budget for this project, however, we found it more cost effective to rely on free and subscription online resources. Therefore, most of the budget was spent on books and audiovisual materials.
Unfortunately I do have to inform you that I have removed five items from the collection in the library media center due to being outdated and/or worn. In the school’s efforts to keep materials current it was a necessary action. In order to make the most out of this learning experience it is imperative that students have the necessary materials to succeed. With some resources having pages torn, spines broken and writing on the pages, they had to be eliminated from the collection.
The following materials were removed:
1. Hero’s Song by Edith Pattou (it has not been taken out in years)
2. Biography of Tupac (it’s literally falling apart and has been repaired several times)
3. One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish (it fell apart in a student’s hands and cannot be repaired, but will eventually be replaced)
4 Rome Antics by David Macauly (it has not been taken out in years).
5. Firestarter by Steven King (the reading level is too high, it has not been taken out in years and the subject matter may not be appropriate for a K-8 school)
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the material or the unit please do not hesitate to contact me. Looking forward to working with you as we continue to plan this collaborative unit.
Sincerely,
Juliet
